Structure of 8086 cpu, Computer Engineering

8086 microprocessor comprises two independent units: 

1.  Bus Interface unit

2.  Execution unit

Please refer to Figure below.

The word independent suggests that these 2 units can function parallel to each other. In other words they can be considered as two phases of instruction pipeline.
