Genetically engineered plant-incorporated protectants are created by a process that utilizes several dissimilar modern scientific techniques to introduce a exact pesticide-producing gene into a plant's DNA genetic material. For instance, a desired gene that produces a desired pesticides (e.g., the insecticidal protein Bt from the bacterium, Bacillus thuringiensis) can be isolated from another organism, like a bacterium, and then inserted into a plant. The desired gene becomes part of the plant's DNA.
