Assignment Help:

Q. Specification of Water bound macadam road?

Formation - The embankment for road shall be made to the cross section shown on the drawing. The bank shall be raised in regular layers & rolled & consolidated by the action of rain. The surface of the formation must be barreled to template before any metal laid.
Soling - For roads over which heavy traffic is probable soling of hand packed rubble will first be laid and consolidated with a road roller.

Metal - The metal shall be of a close, tough hard texture and be broken so as to pass in any direction through a five-cm. square mesh for under layers and through a 4 cm. Square mesh for the surface each piece should be squared and sharp. No rounded pebbles angular, chips or flakes shall be used.

Gravel and sand, Moorum -Gravel shall be composed of large coarse grains free from dirt & impurities. Sand used for blinding road surface shall be sharp gritty and clean and quantity used must not exceed in depth. Moorum shall be good, hard, clean & free from clay.

Stacking - The material shall be stacked in continuous heaps of such size and uniform dimension and height not less 60 cm. That each running meter will contain the quantityrequired a running meter of road. The metal for the lower and upper layer will be stacked on opposite sides of the road.

Consolidation - The lower layer of the metal will first be watered and consolidated the upper layer will than be laid the surface being dressed true to template shown on the drawing and consolidated a sufficient blinding of sand or moorum will be used to ensure the metal blinding and through watering and rolling continued until the surface is hard and smooth. Rolling will be done with a road roller weighting 8 To 10 Tones.
