Q. Show the properties of Tetrahydrido borate?

Tetrahydrido borate anion BH-4 has a tetrahedral structure which can be explained on the basis of sp3hybridisation of boron. You have already studied that NaBH4 is an important reagent for the preparation of B2H6. Solubility and stability of NaBH4 in alcoholic and aqueous solutions make it a useful reagent in the reduction of Aldehydes and ketones to primary and secondary alcohols respectively. Other functional groups such as > C = C< - COOH and -NO2 are not attacked normally:
