Q. Show Importance of human resource planning?

Future personnel needs: planning is significant as it helps determine future personnel need. Surplus or deficiency in staff strength in the result of the absence of or defective planning. All public sector enterprises find themselves overstaffed now as they never had any planning of their personnel requirements.

Cope with change: HRP enables an enterprise to cope with changes in competitive forces, markets, technology, products and government regulations. Such changes generate changes in job content, skill demands and number and types of personnel. Shortage of people may be induced in some areas while surplus in other areas may occur.

Creating highly talented personnel: jobs are becoming highly intellectual and incumbents are getting vastly professionalized. The HR manager must use his\her ingenuity to attract the retain qualified and skilled personnel.

Protections of weaker sections: in matters of employment and promotions sufficient representation needs to be given to sc or sat candidates physically handicapped children of the socially and politically oppressed and backward class citizens. These groups enjoy a given percentage of jobs. The constitutional provision is with guarantee equal opportunities for all. A well conceived personnel planning programme would protect the interests of such groups.
