Selection of Operations in an Organisation

In any organisation there will be very many operations which could be studied; this step of the procedure addresses the question - which of these operations should be studied? In answering it, priority would be given to operations which fall in one or more of the following categories: 

1.  Safety or health risk to customers or staff 

2.  Bottleneck, limiting output 

3.  Excessive queuing of customers 

4.  Excessive materials inventory 

5.  High level of non-conformance 

6.  Complaints from operators 

7.  New products or processes 

8.  Variability of performance against standard time.
