Selection of elctrodes, Mechanical Engineering

Assignment Help:

Q. Describe the Selection of elctrodes?

The selection of a proper electrode for electric arc welding is very important to obtain a sound welded joint of proper strength. The various factors affecting the selection of electrodes are:

• Power source: A.C. or D.C.

• Composition of base metal.

• Thickness of base metal.

• Welding position.

• Welding current conditions recommended by the manufacturer of the electrodes.

• Mechanical properties desired in the joint.

• Extent of penetration required in welding.

• Economic considerations.
