Assignment 2 EE5543 - Satellite Communication
Question 1: MEASAT-1 is located at 91.5
o E and operating at the base frequency of 10.982 GHz and
assumed to be a geostationary satellite (i.e. inclination is zero and in circular orbit). Assuming that
the difference in speed that is needed to change the semi major axis (from changes of energy) can be
approximated by Equation (1).

• The initial semi-major axis a0?
• The initial velocity of the satellite?
• The initial Doppler shift?
• During station keeping, the satellite has drifted about 1.5
o Eastward in longitude, calculate the
velocity needed to re-track the satellite?
• The Doppler shift when the satellite was drifted?
Question 2: The semi-major axis of planet Mars is 227,939,100 km and the µsun is 1.327x1011km3/s2
