Rutherford’s atomic model failure, Physics

Assignment Help:
Rutherford’s atomic model failure
  • Rutherford proposed that the electrons circulate around the nucleus.
  • However according to electromagnetic theory, such circulating electrons should radiate energy continuously.
  • If this is so, gradually the electrons will lose energy by circulating in circles of decreasing radii.
  • After sometime, they should fall into the nucleus.
  • This will lead to the collapse of the atom.
  •  It is observed that the atom is stable, and it does not collapse.
  • Therefore, Rutherford model cannot account for the stability of an atom. Hence it failed.
