Q Show Rules followed by diabetic patients?

A  "sick day" is any health problem diabetic patient may have. This could include a common cold, infection, diarrhoea, fever, injury, surgery or a foot infection. Before patient become ill, advice them that they should discuss the plan to handle "sick days" with their physician.

When diabetic patients are ill, they will probably not feel like eating food, taking bath, or they may miss medicine. They will  not go for exercise or do not follow up with a doctor or buy things from market. Therefore, it is your responsibility to advice them to plan ahead, eat and exercise regularly, not to miss medicine and checking blood sugar, take treatment from doctor and keep the supplies at home.

Advice the following:

·  Follow the treatment i.e. drug and insulin prescribed by the doctor.
·  Take prescribed diet.  
·  Check blood sugar regularly and maintain the record.
·  Keep hydrated. Drink lots of fluids when sick, as becoming dehydrated is very common when ill, especially with high temperature, vomiting or diarrhea.  
·  Contact the doctor if not able to manage the situation or if blood sugar is high
