Ribonucleic acid  (RNA) and  deoxyribonucleic acid  (DNA) have  ribose  and deoxyribose as the pentose sugar, respectively. They also differ, to some extent, in possession of  nitrogenous bases. DNA  contains  four types  of  nitrogenous bases  -
adenine, thymine,  cytosine  and  guanine, while  RNA  contains  uracil  in  place  of thymine and  the three other bases  as  in  DNA. Figure illustrates the chemical structure of these nitrogenous bases.
