Retardation of fresh concrete, Civil Engineering

Assignment Help:

Retardation of fresh concrete has numerous benefits as below:

(i)  A rapid hydration process leads to loss in concrete strength since concrete will have a poorer structure with a higher gel/space ratio compared with concrete with a lower hydration rate.

(ii) At the time of the hydration process, a substantial heat of hydration would be produced. If the hydration process is performed too swiftly, it will cause a rapid increase in temperature and leads in considerable early thermal movement in concrete.

(iii) In hot weather concreting, loss of workability is considerable. So as to ensure sufficient compaction of fresh concrete, it is essential to extend the time for fresh concrete to remain plastic.
