Outline three considerations when taking an accurate pulse oximetry reading

Pulse oximeters attach to an external body part, such as a finger or earlobe, and utilize spectral measurements. Consequently, external conditions such as altitude, temperature and lighting can affect the readings. (EHOW 2013)

What signs and symptoms may an individual display when hypoxic?

You may not even recognize the symptoms of hypoxia because hypoxia is insidious in its onset. The signs and symptoms can be different for every person and may not occur in the same progression as listed below. Therefore, it is important to be aware of all the signs and symptoms. • Rapid Breathing

• Cyanosis

• Poor Coordination

• Lethargy/Lassitude

• Executing Poor Judgment

Symptoms:

• Dizziness

• Headache

• Mental and Muscle Fatigue

• Hot and Cold Flashes

• Tingling

• Visual Impairment
