Properties of Catechol
1. Catechol is a colourless crystalline solid, its melting points is 105°C.
2. Catechol is soluble in water.
3. Catechol is exaggerated on exposure to light and air.
4 .Catechol reacts as a reducing agent as it decreases Tollen's reagent in cold and Fehling's solution on high temperature. Along with silver oxide it is oxidized to o-benzoquinone.
