Properties of Aluminium Alloys:

Among the different properties of aluminium alloys given are notable as:

(a) Low density as 2.7 gm/cc

(b) Elevated electrical and thermal conductivity, merely next to Cu

(c) Excellent resistance to atmospheric, water and seawater corrosion

(d) Excellent castability, machinability and formability

(e) Maintains good light reflectivity

(f) Non-toxic, non-magnetic and non-sparking.

Aluminium is a soft however, weak material that strength is increased via strain hardening and some heat treatments. Aluminium is employed as a matrix in some fiber reinforced composites. Al2O3  an oxide of Al is extremely hand and strong and can be detached in the matrix of Al via powder metallurgy to generates SAP or sintered aluminium product. Other reinforcing elements employed in softer aluminium matrix are boron whiskers, stainless steel fibres and whiskers of Al3Ni.

Alminium alloys are divisible in three sets as:

  • cast Al alloys
  • wrought Al alloys
  • Aluminium composite reinforced along with fibres or particles.
