Project Management Functions

Let us now discuss the project management functions. Project management process consists of five core functions to utilise resources to accomplish project ends.

  • Planning - This is the process of developing objectives, goals and strategies for the project and the process commits resources to support the project.
  • Organising - This is the process of identifying resources, providing a layout for these resources, defining the roles of the members of the project team who use the resources to support the project.
  • Motivating - This is the process of establishing a cultural system, that brings out the best out of people in the project work.
  • Directing - This is the process of providing the necessary leadership competency to ensure the making and execution of decisions involving the project.
  • Controlling - This is the process of ensuring project consistency which implements the organisational plans by monitoring, evaluating and controlling the use of resources.
