Retards or show down the process of deterioration or wear:

To reduce friction.

Assess to wear and determine on diagnosis the action required.

To check a breakdown and the time when such action should take

Restore the original operational capacity of the machine and

Fervent further damage.

Affect improvements to reduce the frequency of attention or to reduce cost of maintaining the equipment.

Replacement of the machine when the age of the existing machine requirements of quality and quantity of output and emergency of better machines make it more economical to replace the present and install a new machine equipment.

Preventive maintenance is practiced to some extent in about 75% of all manufacturing units but every preventive maintenance programme is tailored as per the requirements of each company.
