What are the principal problems of managing projects in a fully functional organisation structure?
The major problems of functional organisations are to perform with what may be known a ‘silo mentality’, whereby people follow functional, quite than organisational, goals. In addition, people may have little understanding of or they are interest into things outside of their efficient specialism.
The problem along with managing a project within this environment is that, when the project is run through within one function, people by other functions may not cooperate totally with this, or may even work to frustrate this. When the project is cross-functional, in that case the project manager may face interference through line managers in the different functions.
