In diabetes mellitus counsellor help the diabetic patient to cope up with the stress and take own decision for their treatment and life style changes. Decision making capacity of the diabetic patient is increased.
Counselling sessions are arranged for the patient who is diagnosed as diabetic and the family members. Counselling can also be arranged for the people who are high risk or undiagnosed as diabetic.
Counselling is conducted for the prevention of diabetes mellitus by giving knowledge about diabetes mellitus, preventive measures, early screening, change of life style etc. For providing treatment and support to the diabetic patient who are newly diagnosed cases of diabetes or old case taking treatment. Identifying the reasons for non-compliance to the treatment; identifying social, economical issues; helping the patient to have a normal life with changes in life style and treatment; and helping the patient and family to cope up with the changing situation.
