This assessment will test Learning Outcomes 3 and 4 as well as the component of Learning Outcome 1 as it refers to waste disposal for the Plumbing Technology. The student is expected to answer questions 1 and 2 to demonstrate his/her understanding of all the associated assessment criteria.
You are a member of a design team in a consulting engineering company engaged by a developer. The developer requires preliminary designs for a complex in East Trinidad which aims at meeting the needs of the modern middle class family. The complex includes twelve (12) townhouses, a senior citizen retirement home and shopping centre with food court.
The townhouses are two (2) storey buildings, four (4) bedrooms, accommodate five (5) persons, master bathroom with bathtub, laundry and hot and cold water supply.
The senior citizen retirement home is central air condition two (2) storey building, provides accommodation for sixty (60) residents, fifteen (15) staff members, and a doctor's office with facilities to provide basic health care.
The shopping centre includes ten (10) stores and a food court with five (5) restaurant outlets.
Question 1
You are required to:
1. Produce a sketch plan showing the wastewater reticulation system for the complex.
2. Show how the foul water, rain water and surface water from the complex will be removed or reused on the complex.
3. Describe how the wastewater system for the complex will be tested and commissioned.
You are to ensure that all the requirements of the clients and buildings are met and that the designs comply with local regulatory standards for wastewater supply and solid and liquid waste disposal. You are to state all the assumptions made and provide a list of client and building requirements.
Question 2
You are required to:
a. Describe what methods could be employed to dispose of the solid and liquid waste for the complex.
b. Utilise any latest technologies for recycling and recirculation of solid and liquid waste disposal on the complex.
c. Provide simple sketch of pertinent/appropriate sections of the design depicting the system that will be utilized to achieve (a) and (b) above.
