Assignment Help:

Physical properties of Nitro alkanes or Nitroparaffins

(1) Nitro alkanes are colourless, pleasant smelling liquids.

(2) These are sparingly soluble in water but enthusiastically soluble in organic solvents.

(3) Their boiling points are very much higher as compared to isomeric alkyl nitrites due to polar nature.

(4) Again because of polar nature, nitro alkanes are excellent solvents for polar and ionic compounds.
