Physical properties of Alkyl cyanides

(1) Alkyl cyanides are neutral substance with pleasant odour, similar to bitter almonds.

(2) Alkyl cyanides are Lower members containing upto 15 carbon atoms are liquids, while higher members are solids.

(3) Alkyl cyanides are soluble in water. The solubility decreases along with the increase in number of carbon atoms in the molecule.

(4) Alkyl cyanides are soluble in organic solutions.

(5) Alkyl cyanides are poisonous but less poisonous than HCN.
