Physical properties of acyl halides, Chemistry

Assignment Help:

Physical properties of Acyl Halides

1. As much lower acyl chloride are mobile, colourless liquid while the higher members are coloured solids.

2. Acyl chloride has very pungent, irritating sequence and are strong lachrymators (tears gases)

3. Acyl Halides fume in air because of the formation of hydrochloric acid by hydrolysis.

4. Acyl Halides are readily soluble in most of the organic solvent. Acyl chloride do not form intermolecular hydrogen bonding. Hence, their boiling points are lower as compared to those of their parent acids.
