Importance
In a civil airport, the passenger terminal building is the centre of all activities. It services both inbound and outward bound passengers and their baggage and provides them facilities while they are in the airport.
Requirements of Passenger Terminal Building
The requirements of various authorities and users are summarised below :
Passengers
(a) adequate kerb space for vehicles for arriving and departing passengers, rental cars and taxis,
(b) adequate parking for vehicles close to the terminal building,
(c) comfortable seating arrangement, toilets, post office, bank, restaurant, book stall and telephone,
(d) good flight information system,
(e) adequate number of baggage X-ray equipment,
(f) good public address system,
(g) segregation of arriving and departing passengers,
(h) good baggage handling system,
(i) good signage system,
(j) passenger escalators for climbing up or down from one level to another, and
(k) inter-terminal transport facility.
