Let us begin with a brief overview of Dreamweaver work area. If you haven't launched Dreamweaver already, double-click on the Dreamweaver icon on your desktop to do so.

While you launch Dreamweaver, the following work area items open up. The Dreamweaver work area accommodates distinct styles of working & levels of expertise. Once you get accustomed to keyboard & other shortcuts, you may like to work in a completely blank space. The figure below illustrates different components of the work area.

• The Document window displays the existing document as you create & edit it.
• The Objects panel has icons you click to put in objects in your document, and to alter the way you work in a document.
• Dreamweaver provides several floating panels, like the HTML Styles panel & the Code inspector, that enable you to work along with other Dreamweaver elements.
• The Launcher bar has buttons for opening & closing your most frequently used inspectors & panels.
• The Property inspector displays properties for the chosen text or object, and allows you change those properties. (Which properties appear in the inspector based on the object actively chosen in the document.)

You would be well advised to close all of the floating panel & options boxes cluttering up the work area through clicking on the X on the top right corner of boxes.  In order to open Dreamweaver's windows, inspectors, & panels, employ the Window menu. A check mark next to an item in the Window menu denotes that the named item is open currently (though it might be hidden behind other windows). In order to display an item that isn't currently open, select the item name from the menu or employ its keyboard shortcut.
