Osmoregulation in Animals
Osmoregulation associates to the regulation of water and ionic content of the body of non-chordate metazoans. These might be osmoconformers / osmoregulators. Osmoconformers keep their internal body fluid in osmotic equilibrium with the aqueous environment in which they live. In other words, the salt concentration of the internal and external media is much more or less same. Other organisms are osmoregulators and they keep the concentration of their internal body fluids relatively constant. This may be frequently at a different osmotic and ionic level from that of the environment. In this, you will as well learn the mechanisms of regulation of water and ionic content of body fluids in these animals.
