Nucleophilic addition reactions, Chemistry

Assignment Help:

Nucleophilic addition reactions:

While the addition reaction takes place on account of the initial attack of nucleophile, the reaction is known as a nucleophilic addition reaction. Due to existence of strongly electronegative oxygen atom, the p -electrons of the carbon-oxygen double bond in carbonyl group (C = O) obtain shifted towards the oxygen atom and thus such bond is highly polarised. This makes carbon molecules of the carbonyl group electron deficient.
