Nature of light as a particle, Chemistry

Assignment Help:

Q. Illustrate Nature of light as a particle?

Ans. You have seen that when excited electrons return to the ground state they release packets of energy, called photons. Photons are also known as light particles. Light is a strange creature. While we often refer to its wave properties, we also can mention its properties as a particle.

The energy of a photon relates to the color of light we see. High energy photons might emit in the ultraviolet region of the spectrum while low energy photons would wind up in the infrared. The relationship between the energy of a photon and the color we see is summed up in the following equation:

ΔE = hν

where E is the energy, h is Plank's constant (6.626 x 10-34 Joule seconds), and is the frequency of the radiation.
