Read "Lyndon B. Johnson, Speech and Johns Hopkins University" (Pearson, pp. 143-144). Johnson had a tough task on his hands. Given the precedents set by the Korean War and NSC-68, American involvement at Vietnam has been considered by some to have been a foregone conclusion. But, Johnson still had to convince the public that the war was a good idea. How did he do that? Do you think most Americans would have found his speech convincing? Do you find it convincing?
