Monitoring for infections
Many infections are common in diabetic patient. Most prominent are urinary tract infections. Others are skin problems (carbuncles), ear problems (otitis externa), foot infections (ulcers), lung infections (pneumonia) etc. It is important to teach patient and family members to be careful and be observant. In case of any infection they should contact the health worker or the doctor and take treatment. You will learn more details in Unit 2 of Block 4 under chronic complications of diabetes mellitus.
