Modern Trends in Transportation:

Rapid urbanization that is taking place in India is putting severe strain on the road system. Modern systems like exclusive bus lanes, light rail transit and Metro rail systems can be helpful in solving the problem. There are other systems of transport such as pipelines, ropeways, belt conveyors and passenger conveyors.

Objectives

After studying this unit, you should be able to

  • understand how modern urban transportation systems like exclusive bus lanes, light rail transit and Metro rail can be beneficial in solving the urban transport problem in towns and cities, and
  • know the knowledge of continuous flow systems like pipelines, ropeways, belt conveyors and passenger conveyors.
