Minor Losses Using Th Method of Loss Coefficients

One method of calculating the energy loss as a result of fluid flowing through a device or fitting, each device or fitting has a unique loss coefficient K or C. Typical loss coefficient values are shown in the table. To determine the minor loss for each device or fitting, multiply the fluid kinetic energy v2/2g with the loss coefficient K.

hm = khv = C (v2/2g) = K (v2 / 2g)

All minor losses must be calculated individually, summed (?????? h??), then added to the hƒ piping to get hƒ total.

hƒ total = sum hm + hƒ piping
