Question
What is meaning of driving succession of driven piles?
Answer In Basement construction, if piles are driven from centre to perimeter, there is a propensity of soils to move away from. Such lateral group of soil might cause break to nearby structures and utilities. Though, if piles are driven from outside perimeter inwards, there are slight soil lateral movements. These results in a well-compacted core with an excess pore water pressure built up to resist loading of piles. So, shorter pile lengths than original designed ones might result. Still, some time after pile driving operation, excess pore water stress is dissipated and shorter driven piles might not be able to take up the original design loads. In this state redriving is required to drive piles to deeper depths after indulgence of excess pore water pressure.
