Loss of prestress due to creep of concrete

Creep of concrete means time dependent deformation of concrete. Its effect depends upon the interval of  time for which the member is loaded. For instance, suppose a concrete member is subjected to an external load which causes a deformation. If  the member remains loaded for a long time it is seen that the deformation increases without any increase of  load due to creep.
