Assignment Help:

Discuss about the International Court of Justice as the organisation of United Nations.

The International Court of Justice (ICJ):

Its major functions are to settle legal arguments submitted to this by states and to provide advisory opinions on legal questions submitted to this by duly authorised international agencies and organs. The several number of decisions made through the ICJ has been relatively small, nevertheless there has clearly been raised willingness to use the Court from the 1980 year, especially between developing countries, though the USA withdrew through compulsory jurisdiction into 1986, meaning this accepts the court's jurisdiction onto only a case-to-case basis.

The International Court of Justice is composed of 15 judges selected to nine year terms through the UN General Assembly as well as UN Security Council through a list of persons nominated from the national groups into the Permanent Court of Arbitration. Judges provide for nine year terms and may be re-selected. Elections get place every three years, along with one-third of judges retiring all times, in order to make sure continuity within the court.
