Compare and contrast the institution of American slavery in the colonial (1607-1776) and antebellum (1812- 1860) periods. At the very least, be sure to discuss similarities and differences regarding justifications for the institution, legal frameworks structuring and supporting the institution, the birthplace of enslaved persons, the work performed by enslaved people, the locations of enslaved persons, cultural practices within enslaved communities, and forms of resistance. Explain why aspects of the institution changed over time and why others remained similar.
