Installation of band drains, Civil Engineering

Assignment Help:

Question

For drained reclamation, what will significance of smear zone bring by installation of band drains?

Answer

Throughout installation of band drains, smear zones are shaped in that zone of soil surrounding band drains is disturbed. Compressibility of surrounding soils is improved and it results in reduction of their permeability. In fact, surrounding soils are remoulded during installation progression and effectiveness of band drains is summary. In essence, for reduced permeability of soils roughly band drains, it takes longer time to complete consolidation process.
