The concept of Mouse was designed by Douglas C. Engelbart of Stanford Research institute and first Mouse was designed by Xerox corporation.  Mouse itself is a device that gives you a pointer on screen and a way of selection of commands by buttons on the top.  A single button is generally enough (as in Mouse with Apple Macintosh machines) however Mice come with up to 3 buttons.
