Illustrate the mechanism of piezoelectric effect?
Mechanism of Piezoelectric effect:
Piezoelectric and inverse piezoelectric consequences are only exhibited through certain crystals that lack centre of symmetry. Into a piezoelectric crystal, the positive and negative electrical charges are split, although symmetrically distributed, therefore the crystal overall is electrically neutral. All of these sides form an electric dipole and dipoles near to all tend to be aligned into regions termed Weiss domains. The domains are generally randomly oriented, but can be aligned during poling, a process by which a strong electric field is applied across the material, generally at elevated temperatures. While a mechanical stress is applied, such symmetry is disturbed, and the charge asymmetry produces a voltage across the material. For illustration, a 1 cm cube of quartz along with 2 kN (500 lbf) of accurately applied force can produce a voltage of 12,500 V. Piezoelectric materials also show the opposite effect, termed as converse (inverse) piezoelectric effect, there the application of an electrical field makes mechanical deformation into the crystal
