Skin
The skin or integument is the outer covering of the body and have appendages i.e. nails and hairs. The outer layer of skin is known as epidermis; the inner layer is dermis and contains sweat glands, sebaceous glands, nerve endings and blood vessels. Skin protects the body; have sensory nerves for touch, pain etc, act as an excretory organ, regulate body temperature and absorbs some drugs like insulin injection is given under the skin.
The temperature of the body is maintained at 98.4o F (37o C). Body temperature in maintained by a balance between heat lost and heat produce by the body. When patient is having fever the temperature of the body is high. You will learn to check body temperature in Practical 3 of Pracitcal Block
