The linear approach is best exemplified in the work of A.R. Luria and various collaborators, while the configurational approach is seen in the work of Ward Halstead and collaborators. In either case, however, the aim of the assessment is to determine the pattern of the patient's preserved and impaired functions and infer from this pattern the nature of the disturbed brain function.
