In this question we consider a bended outlet of pipe flow AB. End A is attached to an
incoming pipe by a flange connection. The pipe diameter at A is the same as the incoming
pipe, dA=10cm. The flow is converged and bended through a short transition, which
dissipated 50% of the kinematic flow energy at point A. After the transition, the flow goes
through a narrow pipe with diameter dB=5cm, and eventually shorts out from point B as a
free jet flow. The flow at point A is in the horizontal direction, and the flow at point B is at
an angle 30° to the horizontal direction. Point B is 50cm above the pipe’s axis at point A. We
consider a steady flow with a discharge Q=0.01m3/s.
You can that AB is short enough for neglecting frictional head loss, but is long enough to
ensure well-behaved flow at A and B.
