Q. How respiratory pigments act?
Respiratory pigments are oxygen-carrying molecules present in the blood. When the oxygen concentration is high for instance, in the pulmonary alveoli, the respiratory pigments bind to the gas. In conditions of low oxygen concentration for instance, in tissues the respiratory pigments release the molecule.
In the human blood the respiratory pigment is hemoglobin present inside the red blood cells.
