How plants solve the problem of transporting substances throughout their tissues?

In the bryophytes the substance transport is done by the diffusion. In the tracheophytes (pteridophytes, angiosperms and gymnosperms) there are specialized conductive vessels, the xylem that carries water and mineral salts and the phloem that conducts organic material (sugar).
