How Low Birth Weight cause Protein Energy Malnutrition?

The beginning of PEM in children starts in US from the time of their birth. At least a third of the Indian children are born with low birth weights (<2.5 kg) clue to high maternal malnutrition (malnutrition in mother). You may be aware that the birth weight of a normal child is 3-3.4 kg.
