How do plants solve the problem of transporting substances throughout their tissues?

In bryophytes the substance transport is completed by diffusion. In tracheophytes (pteridophytes, gymnosperms and angiosperms) there are specialized conductive vessels, the xylem that carries water and mineral salts and the phloem that conduct organic material (sugar).
