The efferences (reactions) of the nervous system can be classified into voluntary when controlled by the involuntary and will those not consciously controlled. Instance of reactions triggered by volition are the movements of the tongue, limb and respiratory muscles. Instance of involuntary efferences are those that command the peristaltic movements, the arterial wall muscles and the heartbeat. The skeletal striated muscles are voluntarily contracted the smooth muscles and the cardiac striated are involuntarily contracted.
