Q. Graphs of Sin x and Cos x ?
Ans.
The sine and cosine functions are related to the path that an object might take around a circle.
Suppose a dolphin was swimming over the waves in a circular pattern. His path could help us draw a sine or a cosine graph!
The dolphin's height, or y-coordinate will trace out the sine curve.
If you were to watch the dolphin swim around and around again, here is a portion of the graph he would generate. Please note that the variable "" has been renamed as "x" in the graph.
The vertical distance of the dolphin, or x-coordinate, will trace out the cosine curve.
If you were to watch the dolphin swim around and around again, this is a portion of the graph he would generate. Note, that the variable "" has once again been replaced by the variable "x" in this graph.
The graphs show values of sin(x) and cos(x) for x between -2p and 2p . Can you guess what the graphs look like for x between 2p and 4p ?
