Various protein-coding genes in bacteria are clustered both in operons that serve as transcriptional units which are co-ordinately regulated. It was Jacob and Monod in year of 1961 who proposed the operon model for the regulation of transcription. The operon model proposes 3 parts that are as follows:
? A group of structural genes instance example genes encoding the proteins to be regulated;
? An operator site, that is a DNA series which regulates transcription of the structural genes;
? Aregulator gene that will encodes a protein which recognizes the operator sequence.
