Give a few applications of superconductors. Also give three applications of superconductors.
Application of superconductors in Electrical and Electronic Engineering
(i) The most significant application of superconductor is the exploitation of zero electrical resistance. Through making current carrying conductors superconducting, losses because of the resistance of wire that carry electrical power over a long distance by transmission lines, would be eliminated.
(ii) In production of extremely powerful magnets
(iii) With the invent of high temperature superconducting magnets and superconducting materials find application in several areas as magnetic resonance Imaging (as medical diagnose and spectroscopy) or refining, magnetic shielding and in magnetic levitation high speed trains
(iv) There are two areas, in electronic engineering in which superconducting properties can be advantageously used namely in electronics gates and in chip interconnections.
